Otovwodo Grammar School
Otovwodo Grammar School was a former Army logistic centre and camp, built during the Nigeria civil war. It had only four buildings with a large expanse of land where the federal troops usually trained on shooting and parade.
Nine years after the civil war, the logistic centre located at the northern end of Ughelli, popularly called barrack by Otovwodo folks, became a grammar school. It was the only co-educational school established in Ughelli town.
During that time, it was not easy to gain admission into popular schools like Government College, Ughelli; Urhobo College, Warri; and Ibru College in Agbarha-Otor, a communal town in Ughelli North Local Government Area. With the establishment of Otovwodo Grammar School during the famous free education programme of a political party in power then in Delta State (old Bendel State), many local folks from far away villages whose parents could not afford to send them to boarding schools, rushed to enroll as students at Otovwodo Grammar School. Most of the students were complete illiterates. They could barely speak Pidgin. Some were about twenty-five years old when they enrolled in Secondary Class-One.
